Lewis Named to Butkus Watch List

NORMAN, Okla. -- Oklahoma junior linebacker Travis Lewis has been named to the watch list for the 2010 Dick Butkus Award released this week by The Butkus Foundation. The award is given annually to the nation's top linebacker and will be announced in early December on the campus of the award winner.

Lewis enters the 2010 season after leading the Sooners in tackles the past two years, accumulating 253 career tackles, the third-best total by a linebacker in the Stoops' era. The San Antonio, Texas, native is a two-time All-Big 12 first team member and has cracked the double-digit tackles mark in 11 games of his career.

Oklahoma linebackers have won the award on four occasions, twice under Bob Stoops as Teddy Lehman (2003) and Rocky Calmus (2001) each took home the honor.

The Butkus list is the third award to name Lewis to its watch list this season as he was previously named to the watch lists for the Nagurski and Bednarik Awards. (SoonerSports.com)
