Beal, Lewis Named to Lombardi Watch List

NORMAN, Okla. - A pair of Oklahoma players are on the preliminary watch list for the 2010 Rotary Lombardi Award. Defensive end Jeremy Beal and linebacker Travis Lewis both made the list.

Eligibility for the Rotary Lombardi Award is limited to down linemen, end-to-end, either on offense or defense, who set up no farther than 10 yards to the left or right of the ball, or linebackers who set up no farther than five yards deep from the line of scrimmage.

Beal, a senior from Carrollton, Texas, was a finalist for the 2009 Ted Hendricks Award, which is presented annually to the top defensive end in college football. Last season, he led Oklahoma with 19.0 tackles for loss and 11.0 sacks. He also was credited with six quarterback hurries, three forced fumbles, three pass deflections and one interception.

Lewis, a junior from San Antonio, Texas, was an All-Big 12 performer last season after leading Oklahoma in tackles for a second straight season. He finished with 109 stops along with 9.5 tackles for loss and one sack. He also logged a pair of pass deflections and an interception.

The 41st Rotary Lombardi Award will be held on December 7- 8, 2010 at the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston, Texas. (SoonerSports.com)

White Team Wins in Shutout

NORMAN, Okla. -- Landry Jones completed 17 of 34 passes for 211 yards and two touchdowns to lead the White team to a 23-0 win over the Red in Oklahoma's Spring Football Game, Saturday.

A crowd of 16,481 braved the steady rain and chilly temperatures to watch the event.

Jones, the first pick in the team's Thursday draft, tossed scoring strikes of five yards to tight end Trent Ratterree and 31 yards to Kenny Stills to go with three Jimmy Stevens field goals.

"Landry is gaining maturity and you can see that he's more sure of himself," said OU Head Coach Bob Stoops. "He made some nice throw and kept moving his team down the field.

The Sooner coach was mostly happy with his team's performance.

"The weather conditions were bad so when you factor in those things, I thought we had a solid day," he said. "It wasn't perfect by any means, but it was good overall. I wish we could have had a nicer day, but I wish that more for the fans than anybody."

Stevens started the scoring with 7:11 left in the first quarter on a 39-yard field goal to cap a 13-play, 53-yard drive.

He tacked on a 31-yarder with 2:14 left in the first frame to up the score to 6-0 before Jones and tight end Trent Ratterree hooked up on a five-yard touchdown pass with 6:14 left in the second quarter. It came at the end of a 19-play, 72-yard drive. Stevens added the extra point to extend the lead to 13-0.

Stevens then made a 27-yard field goal with 3:45 remaining in the half and the White held a 16-0 advantage at the intermission.

The lone score of the second half came with 6:13 left in the game when Jones and Stills hooked up on the 31-yard play.

Redshirt freshman fullback Marshall Musil paced the White's running attack with 29 carries for 92 yards. OU's top returning rusher, DeMarco Murray, saw his only duty in catching punts.

Stills, who transferred to OU in January after completing his fall semester of high school, led all receivers with six grabs for 84 yards and was impressive in his Sooner debut.

Defensive players were not allowed to hit the quarterbacks and were awarded sacks when they touched the quarterback behind the line of scrimmage. Jeremy Beal racked up five sacks as a member of the White team.

The leading tackler in the game was the Red team linebacker Jaydan Bird.

The White team will be the beneficiary of the Winner Dinner Monday night. As the winning team, its participants will feast on steak. The losing Red squad will dine one hot dogs and baked beans.

OU will hold the last of its 15 spring practices for this year on Monday afternoon.
