Landry Jones Added to Manning Award Watch List

NORMAN, Okla. --Oklahoma quarterback Landry Jones was named to his fourth national award's preseason watch list Friday afternoon as Allstate Sugar Bowl announced its Big 12 quarterbacks on the Manning Award's watch list. Jones is one of just three finalists for the award last season to return in 2012 and Friday's announcement marks the third straight year that the Artesia, N.M., native has appeared on the preseason list.

Already on the Maxwell, Davey O'Brien and Walter Camp Awards lists, Jones leads the NCAA with 12,379 career passing yards and 93 career touchdowns. The senior enters the season tied with current OU running backs coach Cale Gundy (1990-93) for most career starts by a quarterback at OU with 37 and is just three wins away from tying Steve Davis (1973-75) for the OU career victories record of 32 wins.

Jones was a three-time Manning Award Star of the Week in 2011, including the week he threw for a school record 505 yards in a road win over Kansas State.

The overall Manning Award Watch List will include 25 of the top quarterbacks in the nation heading into the 2012 season. The winner will be announced after the bowls in January and will be honored at a ceremony in New Orleans.

The Manning Award was created by the Allstate Sugar Bowl in honor of the college football accomplishments of Archie, Peyton and Eli Manning. It is the only quarterback award that includes the candidates' bowl performances in its balloting.
