NORMAN, Okla. -- University of Oklahoma senior center Ben Habern was named to the 2012 Watch List by the Rimington Trophy committee on Tuesday. The Rimington Trophy is presented annually to the NCAA's most outstanding center among FBS teams.

Habern has opened 30 contests at center during his career with the Sooners. An arm injury limited him to six starts a year ago when he compiled 39 knockdowns on 391 snaps.

The Argyle, Texas, native started all 14 games in 2010 when he earned All-Big 12 honorable mention honors from the Associated Press after starting 10 games in 2009. He is one of four Big 12 players represented on the Rimington Trophy Watch List, joining BJ Finney (Kansas State), James Fry (TCU) and Joe Madsen (West Virginia).

Habern is the sixth OU football student-athlete to be named to a preseason watch list this week. Landry Jones, Kenny Stills and Dominique Whaley were named to the Maxwell Award preseason list, given to the nation's top outstanding player, while Demontre Hurst and Tony Jefferson were named to the Bednarik Award list, given to the nation's top defensive player.

The winner of the Rimington Trophy will be honored at the Rococo Theater in Lincoln, Neb, on January 12, 2013. The award's namesake, Dave Rimington, was a consensus All-America center at the University of Nebraska in 1981 and 1982.
