Peterson Cleared to Take Contact in Practice

Defenders allowed to hit Peterson in practice: Vikings running back Adrian Peterson absorbed football-related contact for the first time since reconstructive left knee surgery nearly eight months ago.

During practice, the Vikings cleared defenders to make contact with Peterson's upper body. Coach Leslie Frazier was pleased with Peterson's reaction to the contact.

"There were times there was nowhere to go and he had to run into people, and he responded well," Frazier said. "That was good to see. There were some good, hard hits. Nothing to the ground, just guys thudding him."

Peterson hasn't experienced swelling in the knee after practices, which is also a good sign. The Vikings want to see how Peterson responds to the contact, then contemplate whether he's ready to absorb a full week of regular season preparation. (Pioneer Press)
