The No. 12-ranked University of Oklahoma baseball team's freshman left-handed relief pitcher Jacob Evans has been named the Big 12 Conference's Newcomer of the Week. This marks the first conference honor of the Broken Arrow, Okla., native's young career.

Evans continued to show the cool of a veteran out of the bullpen in OU's Big 12 Conference opening weekend series sweep of TCU. He nailed down his team-leading fourth save of the season with 1.2 scoreless frames of work Saturday, bailing the Sooners out of a one-out, bases-loaded jam in the eighth inning to preserve Oklahoma's 3-1 lead. On Sunday, he tossed two scoreless frames and earned the pitching victory to improve to 4-0 on the season. He has not surrendered a run in each of his last 10 appearances out of the bullpen.

Oklahoma (22-4) visits Tulsa on Tuesday to battle Oral Roberts in midweek action. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. CT.
