Reid anchored OU’s pommel horse team, and his career-high score was a meet high on the event, 0.500 points more than the next largest mark. It is the highest pommel horse score for OU this season on the apparatus and tied for the fourth-highest total in the country this year.
The Killeen, Texas, native is ranked fifth nationally on the event with a 14.983 four score average and has helped the Sooners to a No. 2 team ranking in the event with a 72.783.
“Mike did his best routine of the season against Ohio State,” head coach Mark Williams said. “It was a beautiful pommel horse display and well deserving conference Gymnast of the Week award.”
The sophomore earned his first career conference honor, and it is the fourth time a Sooner has been recognized this season. Sophomores Jacoby Rubin and Alec Robin and senior Chris Stehl earned the weekly award on Jan. 29, Feb. 5 and March 12, respectively.
The second-ranked Sooners are off this weekend before they begin postseason play at the MPSF Championship on April 6 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. OU competes for its 20th conference title before going for a ninth national title on April 19-21.
