Josh Jarboe is still answering questions about the infamous, obscenity-laced rap video that led to his dismissal from the Oklahoma football team nearly five years ago.
In March 2008, Jarboe was arrested and charged with possession of a stolen gun, and carrying a gun onto school property, both felonies. He pled guilty and was expelled from school, but Oklahoma gave him another chance after he finished his graduation requirements online.
After he arrived at OU, though, a video of Jarboe rapping about guns and violence surfaced on YouTube. OU coach Bob Stoops initially expressed support for Jarboe, but dismissed him from the team a day later.
“Character is a big thing with NFL scouts and teams,” Jon Carr, a national scout for the Houston Texans, said in the New York Times story. “You want to see if he’s matured and can handle being a pro. I think he’s a young man who knows he’s made a lot of mistakes. A lot of guys in the league have done that. But if he repeated those mistakes before, will he repeat them again?
“Then there’s the video in Oklahoma. I haven’t watched that yet.” (The Oklahoman)
