Volleyball: Lauren English Signs NLOI With OU

University of Oklahoma head volleyball coach Santiago Restrepo announced Monday that high school senior Lauren English of Richardson, Texas, has signed a National Letter of Intent with the Sooners and will join the OU program as a freshman for the 2013-14 season.

"Lauren is an extremely dynamic and gifted young lady who plays the back row and knows how to play the libero/defensive specialist position to the T," Restrepo said. "She is very good at passing and at directing traffic in the back row. She has very good qualities to be a great libero in college and we are extremely happy that she is coming to OU."

Playing under head coach Jason Nicholson at Richardson Pearce High School, the 5' 9" English helped lead her team to a third-place finish in the Class 4A State Championship tournament in both 2009 and 2010 and a runner-up finish in 2011.

A three-time letter winner, English was honored as the Mustangs' best defensive player in 2011. In 2009, she set the school varsity record for most digs recorded by a freshman.

In 2010, English was named First Team All-District and received All-District Team Honorable Mention Club honors the season before. She is also a two-time Determination, Dedication, Desire Award winner, taking home the honor in 2010 and 2011. Lonestarvolleyball.com named English to the All-Texas Team as an Honorable Mention for the 2011-12 and 2012-13 seasons.

English is a member of the National Honor Society and Mu Alpha Theta, serves as Senior Class Treasurer, was named to Academic All District in 2009 and 2010 and is part of Who's Who at Pearce High School.
