REPORT: OU to Hire Virginia Tech's Pete Hughes as Baseball Coach

The Richmond (Va.) Times Dispatch reported the Sooners will name Virginia Tech’s Pete Hughes as its coach.

Hughes, 45, was 222-144 in seven seasons with the Hokies. Before that, he coached Boston College for eight seasons.

Virginia Tech went 40-22 this year and hosted a regional for the first time in school history, falling to the Sooners in the final.

Hughes could be introduced in Norman as soon as this afternoon. Virginia Tech has called a press conference for 4:30 p.m. local time, reportedly to name Hughes’ successor.

Hughes has one more year remaining on his Virginia Tech contract.

Hughes replaces Sunny Golloway, who went 346-181-1 in eight-plus seasons with the Sooners before being hired away by Auburn earlier this month. (The Oklahoman)
