Softball: Sooners Win National Championship

Oklahoma's softball team won its first national title since 2000, beating Tennessee 4-0 in Game 2 of the Women's College World Series finals at ASA Hall of Fame Stadium on Tuesday night.

Three of the runs came from Keilani Ricketts' home run to right field in the third inning. Ricketts, who did her work from the batter's box instead of the pitcher's circle, hit her 15th home run of the season and went 2-for-4 at the plate for OU (57-4).

Ricketts had unfinished business in the final game of the WCWS. Last year, she let a title slip away to Alabama in Game 3. This year, she knew two steps into her home run trot that the ball would clear the fence and give Oklahoma the lead.

Then in the seventh inning, with Lauren Chamberlain standing on third after her shot to left field hit near the top of the fence, Ricketts struck again. This time Ricketts' ball stayed in the infield and was an easy unassisted out for the first baseman, but it allowed Chamberlain to cross the plate to build on the Sooners' lead. (The Oklahoman)
