Her performance makes her the first freshman in program history to score in the javelin. Her two points for the seventh-place finish has OU in a tie for 15th after the first day of competition in Eugene, Ore.
With that finish, the Las Vegas, Nev., competitor earned first-team All-America honors. It marks the fourth consecutive year for a Sooner woman to compete in and earn All-America honors in the javelin and fifth in the last six. The consecutive string started in 2010 with Amy Backel, who also finished seventh, then Brittany Borman won the national title in javelin in 2011 and 2012 after earning All-America honors in 2010 with a second-place finish. Backel also earned All-America honors in the event in 2008, finishing seventh as a sophomore.
Allgood entered the third round of the semifinal without a mark that would advance her to the final. On her final throw of the semifinal, she recorded what would be her best throw of the competition to advance to the nine-woman final. In the final, Allgood had two legal throws but did not improve her best mark.
Austin Perry competed in the men's shot put later Wednesday night. The Duncan freshman had three legal throws in the semifinal but none of his attempts broke the 61-foot barrier, the minimum it took to move into the final round of nine. Perry finished 18th with a 58-10.25.
On Thursday, the Sooners will send entries to the men's 1,500, the men's 10,000 and the men's 1600-meter relay. In the 1,500, Riley Masters has been ranked number one since late April with a 3:38.79. Patrick Casey, the Big 12 champion in the 1,500, has the fourth best time in the country. He ran 3:40.04 to win the league title.
Their semifinal race is set for 6:45 p.m. CT. The final for the 1,500 will be run at 4:31 on Saturday. The top five in each of the two heats plus the next best two times will advance to the finals. Casey is slated to run in the first heat of 12 runners with Masters in the second heat.
Kevin Williams will run in the 10,000 at 9:15 p.m. The Big 12 runner-up in the 10,000, Williams posted a career best with a 29:16.12 in that race. He earned second team All-America honors in the indoor 5,000 earlier this year. The 10,000 features 24 runners and is a final only.
The men's 1600-meter relay, Ethan Baker, Jamel Wood, Waymon Storey and Nathaniel Winfrey will run in the third heat of the semifinal. The event is scheduled to be on the track at 8:40 p.m. The top two times from each heat plus the next best two times will advance to Saturday's final that is scheduled to take the track at 5:50 p.m.
