Track and Field: Eight Sooners at USA Championships

Members of the Oklahoma track & field team will compete this weekend at the USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Drake Stadium this weekend, June 20-23 for the right to represent the United States in international meets later this year.

In the senior division, Sooner Tia Brooks will compete in the women's shot put on Saturday. Brooks is coming off back-to-back national championships in both the indoor and the outdoor shot put. In 2012, Brooks qualified for the London Olympics where she finished 19th.

Also in the senior division, the men's 1,500 meters will see a trio of OU runners, including Patrick Casey, Frezer Legesse and Riley Masters.

All four Sooners will look to place in the top three in their respective events in order to earn the right to represent Team USA at the IAAF World Championships in Moscow, Russia, August 10-18. On the junior side, open to athletes age 16 to 19 as of December 31, 2013, Oklahoma has four athletes competing in the hopes of qualifying for the 2013 Pan American Junior Athletics Championship August 23-25 in Medellin, Columbia.

Allen Eke will run in the 800 meters on Friday night after Kaelan Washington competes in the long jump earlier that day. Tanner Callihan and Everette Favor will both participate in the pole vault on Thursday.

In addition, multiple Sooner alumni will also be competing this weekend including Olympian Brittany Borman in the javelin.
