Soccer: Sooners Set for Exhibition Matchups

The Oklahoma soccer team will wrap up the 2013 preseason this weekend with a pair of games on the road at Idaho and Gonzaga. The Sooners will face Idaho on Friday at 6 p.m. before closing the weekend with a Sunday matchup against Gonzaga at 1:30 p.m.

Now in his second season at OU, head coach Matt Potter is in the midst of a rebuilding effort aimed at positioning the Sooners as one of the nation's top programs. This weekend's exhibition games will serve as an important early step in the season for a dynamic young roster that features 15 newcomers.

"The freshman class has embraced all that we have thrown at them," Potter said. "Their energy and work ethic is a credit to their time prior to joining us. They are talented, hungry and competitive."

Potter's 2013 squad will also rely heavily on a nucleus of returners, including the senior trio of Bailey Boulware, Zoe Dickson and Kathryn Watson.

"We have a group of returning players who are showing they can be true role models," Potter said. "With such a large incoming class, this was an important expectation that they met."

The Sooners will use the weekend's contests as preparation for the squad's season opener against Tennessee. OU will face the Lady Vols on Aug. 23 at 6 p.m. CT, followed by a showdown with Kennesaw State on Aug. 25 at 11 a.m. CT.

Oklahoma will open their home slate for the season on Sept. 1 against Texas State at John Crain Field. The game is slated for a noon CT start and will kick off a home schedule that includes seven total contests. The Sooners will also face Oral Roberts, North Texas, Oklahoma State, Texas Tech, Iowa State and West Virginia in Norman this season.

Season tickets for OU soccer are on sale now and can be purchased online and by phone at 800-456-GoOU. Single-game tickets for the 2013 campaign will go on sale Aug. 20 at 8 a.m. CT.
