Oklahoma senior linebacker Corey Nelson is still waiting for the NCAA to rule on his appeal for a fifth year of eligibility, he told The Oklahoman this week.

Nelson was having the best season of his career before a torn pectoral muscle ended it in OU’s Oct. 5 win over TCU. He initially appealed to the Big 12 Conference for a medical redshirt, but was denied, forcing him to appeal to the NCAA.

Nelson played as a true freshman, so he’s never used a redshirt season.

NCAA rules state that to receive a medical redshirt, a player cannot have appeared in more than 30 percent of his team’s games.

OU sources have indicated that Nelson’s chances at winning his appeal to the NCAA are very slim. (The Oklahoman)
