"When I saw his team play for the first time in '99, I knew that these guys knew what they were doing. They were lining up right. They were playing hard. They were sound, especially defensively, which was the most important thing. It was obvious that first year. They were competitive. They were in every game. They played well. They weren't an embarrassment. Previous to that, I wouldn't go to games because they were an embarrassment, the way they looked. It wasn't the kids' fault.
"So I knew we had the right guy. Now, was he gonna stay a long time? Was he gonna recruit consistently well? That was something we had to find out. Since then, he's proved all that.
"Bob has done that, and he has made the decision this is gonna be his home. As long as he doesn't have some of the things that I had in my career, I'm sure he'll be able to stay as long as he wants. Hell, he might win 300 games. He's young enough he might break Joe Pa's record. If he wants to.
"We've got the right guy at the right place at the right time."
