OU Men's Gymnastics Ranked No. 1

The Oklahoma men's gymnastics team moved into the No. 1 spot in the national rankings released today after a decisive performance at the season-opening Rocky Mountain Open.

The Sooners earned a national-best score of 443.150 on Saturday in Colorado Springs to move up to No. 1 from their No. 2 preseason ranking.

OU was also voted first in the Coaches' Poll which was newly inaugurated this season. The Sooners earned 200 points, followed by Stanford (185) and Michigan (169).

NCAA national runners-up the last three years in a row, Oklahoma will host No. 6 Air Force on Saturday, Jan. 18, in the McCasland Field House at 5 p.m. Tickets are still available or fans can watch live on SoonerSportsTV.

OU is also No. 1 in multiple events in the team rankings. The Sooners hold the top spots on floor, pommel horse and parallel bars. OU is also ranked second on still rings and high bar and third on vault.

In the individual event rankings, three Sooners are ranked No. 1, including junior Alec Robin on floor, junior Michael Squires on still rings and junior Sergey Resnick on parallel bars.

OU gymnasts dominate the parallel bar rankings, taking six of the top spots: Resnick at No. 1, junior Danny Berardini at No. 2, freshman Allan Bower at No. 3, junior Dylan Akers at No. 5, junior Presten Ellsworth at No. 6 and junior Michael Reid at No. 8.

Other high ranking Sooners include freshman Colin Van Wicklen (No. 3, floor), Resnick (No. 2, pommel) and senior Raymond White (No. 4, pommel). Berardini and Bower come in at No. 4 and No. 5, respectively, among all-around competitors.
