Baseball: Mac James Named Big 12 Player of the Week

University of Oklahoma baseball junior Mac James was named the Big 12 Player of the Week by the conference on Monday afternoon. It is the first weekly award of his career and the first for the Sooners this season. James was also included on a list of six players for the Louisville Slugger National Players of the Week as presented by Collegiate Baseball News.

James, a catcher and first baseman from New Braunfels, Texas, hit .684 (13-for-19) last week as Oklahoma went 4-1 at home. He hit in all five games to run his hitting streak to eight games. James totaled six runs scored and six driven in. He went 3-for-3 with a RBI double and a stolen base against Abilene Christian on Wednesday.

In game one of a doubleheader win over Rutgers on Friday, he knocked in three runs on three hits, including a double and walked. James doubled for the third straight game as the Sooners won the nightcap and he finished 2-for-3 with a run and a RBI. On Sunday, he went 4-for-4, his second four-hit game of the season, scored three runs and hit a game-tying home run in the bottom of the sixth inning. In the weekend series, he hit .750 (9-for-12), while he slugged 1.000 for the week to go with a .714 on-base percentage.
