A day after Pendley’s heroics at the plate gave OU a 2-1 comeback win in the opening game of the series, Pendley’s biggest contributions came in the circle Sunday.
OU led 3-1 entering the fifth inning but LSU got one run back on a bases-loaded hit by pitch. Pendley came in to relieve starter Kelsey Stevens and faced a bases-loaded, one-out situation with LSU’s No. 3 and 4 hitters due up.
Against Bianka Bell, Pendley fell behind 1-0 but came back with a called strike and got foul ball. Now ahead 1-2, Pendley painted the outside corner for the strikeout. Cleanup hitter Sahvanna Jaquish, who homered in Saturday’s contest, came up next. Pendley got ahead 0-2 but Jaquish battled back to a full count. Pendley persevered, though, and got Jaquish to strike out swinging to end the threat.
Pendley then threw the game’s final two innings to earn her first career save. She finished the day with 2.2 innings pitched, one hit allowed, no runs and two strikeouts.
In 7.0 innings of work this year, Pendley has still yet to allow a run to cross the plate. She has a 0.00 earned run average with four strikeouts, four walks and three hits allowed. (More at SoonerSports.com)
