Bob Stoops acknowledged Monday that Blake Bell did, in fact, take snaps at quarterback in practice last week. This despite Oklahoma’s insistence that Bell was now a fulltime tight end for the Sooners.
“Because of Cody Thomas’ situation and, as much as anything, too, wanting to redshirt Justice Hansen,” Stoops said. “All of that together plus not having Baker Mayfield’s situation resolved, it never hurts to have an emergency plan.”
Thomas, the redshirt freshman who Stoops has said is OU’s backup to Trevor Knight, recently sustained what Stoops termed a “muscle sprain.”
“I won’t say specifically where, but it was minor,” Stoops said Monday. “He was throwing Thursday and Friday. He’s expected to be full-go with everything we’re doing today.” (Tulsa World)
