The $39.95 suggested price that OU football fans will pay to watch the season opener against Louisiana Tech on Saturday will help subsidize Sooners Sports TV, one of the nation’s most prolific college sports networks, with more than 2,000 hours of programming annually.

Under the Big 12 television contract, conference schools retain rights to one home football game. OU has given its rights for that game to Fox Sports, its partner in Sooner Sports TV. Fox Sports had the option of showing the game for free on Fox Sports Oklahoma.

“We chose to put this on pay-per-view,” Fox Sports Oklahoma spokesman Ramon Alvarez said Tuesday. “By putting this game on pay-per-view, it helps generate income to produce and televise all the other programming you see on Sooner Sports TV.” (The Oklahoman)
