Behind its best single-round score of the event, the Oklahoma men's golf team tied for fourth place with a 1075 (-5) at its season-opening tournament, the Carmel Cup in Pebble Beach, California. The event was played at the iconic par-72, 7,040-yard Pebble Beach Golf Links.

The eight-team tournament, hosted by Vanderbilt, included four Big 12 and four SEC squads. Each team played with six golfers, with the low five scores counting toward the team total.

The Sooners, who are ranked No. 11 according to the GCAA Coaches Preseason Poll, tied with Texas Tech. OU recorded its lowest score of the tournament on Sunday, a 7-under-par 353, six strokes better than its first-round total. The Sooners started the day in seventh place.

"We had a great final round, which is something we didn't do very well last year and that we want to change this year. Our guys did a fantastic job finishing today" OU head coach Ryan Hybl said. "This tournament was one of the best experiences we have ever had, and we are lucky to be part of such a cool trip."

No. 5 Georgia won the team title with a 1063 (-17), five strokes ahead of second-place Vanderbilt. TCU placed third with a 1074 (-6), and No. 12 South Carolina was sixth with a 1-under 1079. No. 21 Arkansas finished the tournament in seventh with an 8-over 1088, while No. 1 Oklahoma State took eighth with an 1101 (+21). Vanderbilt's Hunter Stewart topped the individual leaderboard with a 205 (-11).

The Sooners were paced by three players finishing within the top 15, including sophomore Max McGreevy, senior Michael Gellerman and freshman Grant Hirschman.

McGreevy led OU, grabbing his third career top-10 finish after tying for fourth place, a career best. McGreevy played all three rounds under par and recorded a 211 (-5), including a 3-under 69 on Sunday.

With a 213 (-3), Gellerman finished in a tie for 10th place, his 10th top-10 showing of his career. The senior tallied a 2-under 70 on Sunday and pocketed six birdies. Gellerman and McGreevy recorded a team-best 14 total birdies at the event.

Hirschman claimed a share of 15th place in his first collegiate tournament. Hirschman shot a 2-over 74 for the final 18 holes, bringing his three-round total to an even-par 216.

After posting an even-par 72 for the final 18 holes, freshman Griffin Pierce tied for 33rd place with a 222 (+6). The round was Pierce's second par or better score at the event after posting a 71 (-1) on Friday.

Juniors Beau Titsworth and Luke Kwon tied for 38th place with 7-over-par 223s. After struggling in the first two rounds, Titsworth fired an impressive, bogey-free 4-under-par 68 on Sunday, the lowest score by a Sooner at the event. Kwon, who was competing in his first OU team event, shot a 74 (+4) to close the tournament.

The Sooners return to the course Sept. 12-14 (Friday-Sunday) as they travel to Olympia Fields, Illinois, for the OFCC/Fighting Illini Invite.
