Senior Alex Deir (communication), Doughty (multidisciplinary studies), sophomore Eric Graf (communication), sophomore Elena Arriaza (health and exercise science), McKee (Spanish) and sophomore Bryce Perry (management) earned first-team honors while sophomore Jacob Burcham(mechanical engineering) and sophomore Kyle Polman (accounting) were named to the second team.
It is Doughty’s third consecutive appearance on the first team and Graf’s first appearance with the first team after being named to the second team in 2013 as a redshirt freshman. McKee, Perry, Arriaza, Burcham and Polman were named to the Big 12 Rookie All-Academic team as true freshmen in 2014 for cross country and track and field.
A total of 36 men’s student-athletes were honored with 70 named to the women's team. Of the 106 named to the teams, 91 earned first-team honors.
First team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA while the second team selections hold a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.
To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or in the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of their team’s scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
The Big 12 Cross Country Championships take place on Saturday in Lawrence, Kan. The event begins with the women’s race at 10 a.m. followed by the men’s at 11 a.m. The top men’s and women’s teams are crowned league champion while the top 15 individuals in each race are named all-conference.
