Chelsea Jackson became the fourth Sooner this season to capture weekly honors from the conference office on Tuesday. Jackson was named Newcomer of the Week after posting her second career goal against TCU last Sunday.
Oklahoma now leads the conference in Newcomer of the Week awards (three) and overall weekly honors (six) this season. No other Big 12 team owns more than four awards this season.
Jackson notched her second goal of the season last weekend, meeting a cross in front of the box and heading it past the goalie to give OU the lead in the 28th minute against TCU. The freshman forward came off the bench versus the Horned Frogs to see 69 minutes of action, anchoring an offense that sent 14 shots at its opponent. Jackson is OU's third true freshman to net multiple goals for the Sooners in 2014.
Jackson joins true freshman Lizzie Luallin and junior transfer Laura Rayfield as Sooners to win Newcomer of the Week accolades this season.
Oklahoma will hit the road for Stillwater this Friday night to face OSU in the second match of the annual Bedlam series. The contest is set for a 7 p.m. CT start. The Sooners will return home on Sunday night, challenging Baylor at 7 p.m. in Norman in a make-up match. That evening is Fan Appreciation Night at John Crain Field, with free admission to all fans in attendance.
