Sooners Baseball in the Desert for ASU Tournament

Oklahoma baseball is on the road for its second consecutive tournament as it heads to the Kansas City Royals’ spring training facility for a four-game weekend at the ASU Tournament hosted by Arizona State. Game one of the tournament is Thursday at 5:00 pm against Manhattan.

MBB: Neal, Bennett Named Academic All-Big 12

University of Oklahoma men's basketball players Tyler Neal and D.J. Bennett were each named to the 2014 Academic All-Big 12 Team on Wednesday, the conference office announced.

The Academic All-Big 12 honor is the third for Neal, who was named to the 16-player first team (includes student-athletes who have recorded a 3.20 or better GPA). He was one of three league players who were nominated with a perfect 4.0 GPA. Bennett was one of 13 players named to the second team (3.00 to 3.19 GPA).

Barry Switzer Calls Johnny Manziel An 'Arrogant Little Prick'

Barry Switzer thinks Johnny Manziel is an excellent talent, but he doesn’t like Manziel’s attitude.

The 76-year-old, who won three national championships at Oklahoma and Super Bowl XXX with the Cowboys, was on The Morning After show on CBS Sports Radio in St. Louis Wednesday morning and was critical of the former Texas A&M star.

“I don’t like Johnny Manziel’s antics. I think he’s an arrogant little pr—,” Switzer said, according to a tweet from Tim McKernan, one of the show’s hosts.

Weekend Softball Schedule Altered

Due to Sunday’s weather forecast, No. 20/13 OU Softball's doubleheader against Arkansas-Pine Bluff has been moved from Sunday to Friday afternoon beginning at 3:30 p.m. The second game will follow shortly after the conclusion of game one.

NFL scouts will ask prospects just about anything at the NFL Scouting Combine.


University of Oklahoma self-reported minor NCAA violations including one violation that members of the football team were served more than the allowable portions of pasta. Players who were over served had to donate $3.83 to charity to be reinstated to the team.

The Sooners claimed their second straight victory on a game-winning shot by Morgan Hook as the team's veterans rose to the challenge of playing without their leading scorer.

Oklahoma (17-11, 8-7 Big 12) moved into a tie for fourth in the Big 12 standings with a 64-61 win over Kansas (12-15, 5-10) Saturday night at the Lloyd Noble Center.

Former Sooner Blake Griffin Among Top NBA Endorsement Earners

Former Oklahoma star and LA Clippers forward Blake Griffin is one of NBA's top endorsement earners, according to Forbes.

Griffin ranked ninth in endorsement money, earning more than $6 million in off-the-court income.

Griffin has endorsement deals with Kia, Subway and Nike.

Norv Turner: Expect Adrian Peterson to Catch 50-60 Passes

Former Oklahoma running back Adrian Peterson is the focal point of the Vikings offense, but his receiving numbers have never come close to his sky-high rushing totals. In fact, he has caught 40 passes just twice in his career, with his career-high for receptions being 43. However, it sounds like AP AD will be a much bigger part of the Vikings passing attack next season, as new offensive coordinator Norv Turner sounds ready to get the ball into AP’s AD's hands out of the backfield on passing plays more often.

Turner told KFAN that he expects Peterson to catch between 50 and 60 passes next season, and that would easily be a new career record for the future HOFer. The Vikings OC said, ”I would expect Adrian Peterson to catch 50/60 balls next year.” (FanSided)

WBB: Sooners Down Longhorns, 64-63

Morgan Hook nearly amassed a triple-double, leading Oklahoma Women's Basketball team to a much needed win over Texas in the Sooners’ Pack the Place Pink game Wednesday night.

Hook totaled 15 points, nine rebounds and eight assists -- all team highs -- but her final three points were the most important as Oklahoma (16-11, 7-7 Big 12) defeated Texas (17-9, 8-6) 64-63.

Former Sooner Ryan Broyles Says Knees Are Healthy

Former Sooner Ryan Broyles is currently in Dallas rehabbing and training. He began jogging two weeks ago and recently began running, cutting, jumping and rebuilding the left calf muscle that atrophied after the surgery.

"Every day I'm getting stronger," he said. "I'm four months out and can't wait to see where I'll be 10 months out. Right now I'm happy with my progress."

Jeff Fisher remains committed to Sam Bradford as the St. Louis Rams' starting quarterback.

In an interview Tuesday with ESPN's "Mike and Mike," Fisher said Bradford is making good progress in his rehab from a torn ACL and left little doubt who will be under center as the starter when the 2014 season begins.

Golf: OU Men Win Spring Opener

With a three-round 876 (+24), the 12th-ranked University of Oklahoma men’s golf team claimed the UTSA/Oak Hills Invitational for the second straight season. The two-day, 54-hole tournament, OU’s first of the spring, was played at the 6,765-yard, par-71 Oak Hills Country Club in San Antonio, Texas.

Entering the final round, the Sooners held a one-stroke lead and shot a 13-over 297 on Tuesday to finish five strokes ahead of 28th-ranked Baylor. North Texas took third in the 15-team field with a 33-over 885, while Louisiana and East Carolina tied for fourth with an 896 (+44).

Former Oklahoma WR Trey Metoyer Arrested on Another Indecent Exposure Complaint

Former Whitehouse High School football standout and University of Oklahoma player Trey Metoyer has been arrested by Tyler police on a charge of indecent exposure. He was dismissed from the Oklahoma Sooners team in October after a similar charge.

Tyler Police Department public information officer Don Martin says this is a new charge. Jail records show he was arrested at 2:42 p.m. Bond has been set at $1,500. More details will be added as they become available.

OU Men's Tennis Remains Undefeated

No.7 Oklahoma Men's Tennis improved to 6-0 after defeating 36th-ranked Alabama, 4-1, Sunday in Tuscaloosa, Ala.

"We played a very tough match today in a difficult environment," OU head coach John Roddick said. "We competed well, but we still have a number of things to improve."

Track and Field: OU Heads to Armory Collegiate Invitational

Fresh from a record-setting first road meet, the University of Oklahoma track and field teams left today for the Armory Collegiate Invitational in New York City. Competition for the Sooners begins at 9:35 a.m. EST on Friday when Aatiyah Henry starts the women’s collegiate long jump. Nolan Hay and Kaelan Washington follow shortly after in the men’s collegiate long jump. Hay will be the first Sooner on the track when he competes in the collegiate 60-meter dash at 10:40 a.m.

Report: Deondre Clark to Announce Decision on Monday

Deondre Clark will have his signing day ceremony on 2 p.m. on Monday at Douglass High School, as confirmed by Scott Wright of The Oklahoman. Clark was originally slated to have his ceremony Thursday, but another day of school closings in the Oklahoma City area due to inclement weather pushes the suspense into next week. (The Oklahoman)

OU Baseball Coach Pete Hughes to Have Different Philosophy Than Gollaway

In two weeks, the Pete Hughes era of Oklahoma baseball will officially begin. He admitted Saturday at the program’s media day that he was still in the feeling out process.

There was nothing close to a full lineup card made out. The decision on a weekend rotation was still at least a week away.

OU Football Changes Dates For Two Games

The Big 12 Conference announced Monday that two dates have changed for Oklahoma Football road games in 2014. The Sooners will now visit Tulsa on Sept. 6 and will travel to West Virginia on Sept. 20. The Tulsa game was previously scheduled for Sept. 20, while the West Virginia game moves up one week after originally being slated for Sept. 27.
