After two decades of being denied, Brian Bosworth, a two-time All-American linebacker at the University of Oklahoma and a brash, free-spirited personality who embodied 1980s excess, was inducted into the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame on Friday.

The Boz was part of the 2014-15 class announced Friday morning in conjunction with the inaugural College Football Playoff.

“It took my breath away,” Bosworth said. “Honestly, I can say I started crying. The honor is something I never thought would ever come across my doorstep. I had to Google the name (when NFF chairman Steve Hatchell called with the news) to make sure he wasn’t pulling my chain.”

Bosworth will be enshrined in December at the NFF banquet in New York, and his visage finally will have a place among the game’s greats at the new Hall of Fame in Atlanta.

Bosworth is the 22nd former Sooner player to gain entrance into the college football shrine. (Tulsa World)
