Golf: OU Selected to Host 2018 Men's Regional

The Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club on the campus of the University of Oklahoma has been selected as one of six 2018 NCAA men’s golf regional sites, the NCAA announced.

OU last served as the host school for an NCAA Regional in 2012. At that tournament, the Sooners secured a fifth-place showing with a three-round 874 (+10) to advance to the program’s 33rd NCAA Championships. Then-freshman Michael Gellerman led the Sooners, finishing in fifth at 1 under par.

“We are excited to get the regional bid for 2018,” OU head coach Ryan Hybl said. “There is a lot of respect for Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club, and it shows knowing the NCAA selected our golf course for the second time in six years.”

Other 2018 NCAA Regional sites scheduled for May 14-16, are Raleigh, N.C. (Lonnie Poole Golf Course), Bryan, Texas (Traditions Club), Columbus, Ohio (Scarlet Course/OSU Golf Course), Kissimmee, Fla. (Reunion Resort) and Stockton, Calif. (The Reserve at Spanos Park).

The Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club is highly regarded around the country, earning the No. 17 spot on Golfweek’s 2014 list of the 30 best campus courses. It has served as host to several prominent tournaments, most recently the 2013 U.S. Women’s Amateur Public Links Championship and 2013 NCAA Women’s Regional Championships.

Other events held at the course include the 1997 Oklahoma State Amateur, 1997 NCAA Men’s Regional, 1998 and 2010 Big 12 Women’s Championship and the 2009 U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship.
