Baseball: Jake Elliott Tabbed Big 12 Pitcher of the Week

Sophomore right-handed pitcher Jake Elliott (Coppell, Texas) claimed Oklahoma baseball’s first weekly award of the season by being named the Big 12 Co-Pitcher of the Week as announced by the conference office on Monday afternoon. Elliott shares this week’s award with Baylor’s Sean Spicer.

Elliott, the first righty to start opening day for the Sooners since 2011, pitched seven-scoreless innings and surrendered just two hits, while striking out four as he picked up the win in a 6-1 victory over Notre Dame.

Last season, Elliott went 2-3 with a 3.56 earned run average in 11 starts that spanned 55.2 innings. He is the first OU pitcher to earn a weekly award from the Big 12 since left-hander Dillon Overton on April 15. In 2013, Overton claimed the award twice, including opening week, and righty Jonathan Gray earned it three times.
