Oklahoma's Striker, Seibert Grab Weekly Big 12 Honors

Linebacker Eric Striker #19 of the Oklahoma Sooners hits kick returner KJ Dillon #9 of the West Virginia Mountaineers October 3, 2015 at Gaylord Family-Oklahoma Memorial Stadium in Norman, Oklahoma. Oklahoma defeated West Virginia 44-24.
Oklahoma senior linebacker Eric Striker and freshman kicker/punter Austin Seibert were named Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week and Big 12 Special Teams Player of the Week, respectively, for their performances in Saturday's 44-24 win over West Virginia.

Striker, a 2014 first-team All-Big 12 selection, turned in one of his best career games against the No. 23/21 Mountaineers. Striker tied career highs with 12 tackles and 3.0 tackles for loss, and registered two sacks and a forced fumble. The fumble was returned by teammate Jordan Evans 41 yards for a touchdown to help ice the Sooners' second win over a ranked opponent this season. Striker, who hails from Seffner, Fla., increased his career sack total to 18.0, most ever by an OU linebacker and 11th most overall in program history.

Striker is OU's second Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week selection this season (Zack Sanchez earned the honor following the Sept. 12 win at Tennessee) and the first Sooners linebacker to earn the distinction since Travis Lewis on Nov. 24, 2008.

Seibert made all three of his field goal attempts and each of his five extra point tries while also averaging 43.4 yards on his five punts against WVU. Seibert's field goals came from 40, 25 and 44 yards as he moved into first place among Big 12 kickers (second overall) in points per game (10.5). Three of Seibert's punts were downed inside the 20-yard line and two went for more than 50 yards (51 and a career-long 58).

Seibert, from Belleville, Ill., is perfect on his kick attempts on the year, connecting on all seven field goal and all 21 of his extra point tries. Michael Hunnicutt (in 2011) is the only other Sooner in history who has started his career with field goal makes on his first seven attempts. No OU kicker has ever made the first eight field goal tries of his career.

Seibert is OU's first Big 12 Special Teams Player of the Week this season.

No. 10/9 Oklahoma plays Texas on Saturday at 11 a.m. CT at Cotton Bowl Stadium in Dallas. The Sooners are 10-6 against the Longhorns under head coach Bob Stoops and have won four of the last five meetings.
