Baker Mayfield, Zack Sanchez Named Walter Camp All-Americans

Oklahoma junior quarterback Baker Mayfield and redshirt junior cornerback Zack Sanchez continued the Sooners' strong award season as both were named Walter Camp Football Foundation All-Americans at the Home Depot 25th Anniversary College Football Awards.

Mayfield, who was named to the First Team, ranks No. 2 nationally in yards per pass attempt (9.6) and pass efficiency rating (178.9), No. 6 in passing TDs (35) and points responsible for per game (21.0) and No. 7 in pass completion percentage (.686). The Austin, Texas, native has accounted for 42 touchdowns and only five turnovers (8.4 to 1 ratio) on the season and has helped OU surpass 500 yards of total offense in nine of 12 games, including in each of the last seven.

In addition, he has thrown for at least one touchdown in all 12 games and for at least three TDs in eight contests. He has also rushed for 420 yards and seven scores.

Mayfield has guided the Sooners to an 11-1 record, a Big 12 Championship and a berth in the College Football Playoff. The No. 4 Sooners will meet No. 1 Clemson in the Capital One Orange Bowl on Dec. 31 in Miami Gardens, Fla.

Mayfield becomes the first Oklahoma first-team All-American since center Gabe Ikard in 2013. The last OU quarterback to earn a spot on the team was Bradford in 2009. Oklahoma players have now earned first-team All-America honors 35 times during head coach Bob Stoops' 17 years in Norman. This total includes 17 players on offense, 16 on defense and two from special teams.

Sanchez was named to the Walter Camp Football Foundation All-America Second Team. Sanchez leads the Big 12 and is fourth in the country with six interceptions in 10 games, a rate of 0.6 per contest. In addition, he's second in the league in passes defended per game (1.3). Twice this year Sanchez has posted multiple interceptions in a game, doing so against TCU and Kansas State.

The Walter Camp All-America teams, are selected by the head coaches and sports information directors of the 125 Football Bowl Subdivision schools. Mayfield will receive his trophy at the Foundation's annual national awards banquet on Saturday, Jan. 16, 2016, at the Yale University Commons in New Haven, Conn.
