Switzer on Mayfield Transferring From Texas Tech: Their Mistake Is Our Gain

Former Oklahoma coach Barry Switzer joined Dallas Morning News' Evan Grant, Barry Horn and Kevin Sherrington on the SportsDayDFW podcast.

Switzer talked about range of topics, including Baker Mayfield transferring from Texas Tech to Oklahoma.

On Baker Mayfield and his transfer from Texas Tech to Oklahoma:
Switzer: "When you have a redshirt quarterback that Texas Tech...I'll never know why they never gave him a scholarship. He started seven games at Tech as a walk-on and they never gave him a scholarship. He comes here and he might win the damn national championship for Oklahoma as a walk-on but they were smart enough to give him a scholarship. Baker's numbers are outstanding when you look at him compared to all the rest of Heisman Trophy winners the past few years. His are right there with every one of them. He has really made a difference. When you're a good quarterback and you play well for someone you usually don't end up going somewhere else. That's what happened here at Oklahoma and that's what still baffles me what happened out at Texas Tech. Anyway, it was their mistake, our gain and Oklahoma took advantage of it and have him for another year."
