Softball: Paige Parker Named Big 12 Pitcher of the Week

For the first time this season and eighth time in her career, Oklahoma sophomore Paige Parker has been named the Big 12 Pitcher of the Week.

Parker’s latest honor comes after she was dominant in two starts at New Mexico State during the Troy Cox Classic last weekend. She won both starts in complete game efforts as she gave up just one run in 11.0 innings while striking out 15 batters and allowing just one walk.

She struck out eight batters with no walks and allowed just four hits, one of which was a home run in the team’s 11-1, five-inning victory Friday night. Parker retired the final six batters she faced, including three strikeouts in the fifth inning.

Parker then threw her first shutout of the season as she struck out seven and walked just one with four hits allowed to improve to 3-1 on the season in an 8-0, six-inning win Saturday. She retired six straight and nine of 10 batters faced during a stretch between the third and fifth innings.

In 23.1 innings this year as a starter, Parker has given up just two earned runs for a 0.60 earned run average.

Winning Big 12 Pitcher of the Week for the eighth time in her career moves Parker into a tie for seventh place in Big 12 history with Texas A&M’s Megan Gibson. Last season, Parker won the award seven times, tied for the most ever by a freshman and tied for second overall.
