Because the dismissal came during the spring before his senior season and Byrd never redshirted at OU, he will have the opportunity to transfer with a year of eligibility left after sitting out next season, per NCAA transfer rules.
“He’ll (transfer) with our blessing and make somebody a good hand,” Stoops said.
Thus ends what was, without question, a disappointing Oklahoma football career.
Byrd was ranked among the top prospects in the country coming out of Central East High in Fresno, Calif., and was expected to earn significant playing time — and possibly start — as a true freshman in 2013. (The Oklahoman)
