Oklahoma Dominates ULM in Home Opener

Oklahoma’s football team played its home opener and made its debut in newly renovated OU Memorial Stadium on Saturday, September 10, and rolled to 59-17 win over Louisiana-Monroe.

A crowd of 87,037, the largest to see a sporting event in the state of Oklahoma, watched the game, including OKC Thunder star Russell Westbrook, who briefly wore a Brian Bosworth #44 jersey on the sideline.

The Sooners got the ball first and went 75 yards in 6 plays to a touchdown, with Baker Mayfield passing to Mark Andrews for a 39-yard score to make it 7-0.

After getting the ball back on downs, OU then went 64 yards in 7 plays, with Mayfield passing to Dimitri Flowers for an 8-yard touchdown and a 14-0 lead with 8:17 to play in the first quarter.

OU forced a ULM punt and then went on an 8-play, 60-yard drive, with Samaje Perine scoring from a yard out to extend the lead to 21-0 with 3:07 left in the first quarter.

Early in the second quarter, OU scored again with Jarvis Baxter going 40 yards on an end around for a touchdown and a 28-0 Sooners lead with 14:49 left in the first half.

Oklahoma’s next possession resulted in a punt, but the one after that resulted in another score in just one play.

Mayfield threw to Nick Basquine for a 62-yard touchdown, extending the Sooners’ lead to 35-0 with 9:17 to play in the second quarter.

Late in the first half, OU added to the lead with a 5-play, 50-yard drive, capped by a 5-yard touchdown run by Samaje Perine to make it 42-0 Sooners with 1:03 to play in the half. (More at KFOR.com)
