LB Tay Evans Retires From Football Due To Concussions

Oklahoma linebacker Tay Evans has retired from football.

Sooners coach Bob Stoops announced Monday that Evans, a redshirt sophomore, has been medically disqualified due to concussions.

Evans, a starter in the first three games of the season, did not play in the Sooners’ win over TCU on Saturday. Stoops called the news “a heartbreaker.”

“He’s just had some concussions and the doctors feel it’s in his best interest, moving forward, not to (play),” Stoops said. “And so he’s disappointed. We’re disappointed for him for sure. You know, it hurts us. The guy had been starting and really had an incredible future, but we want the best for him moving forward in his life first and foremost.”

Evans played in 13 games in his career. (Yahoo! Sports)
