Bob Stoops: Sooners Continue to Respond Despite Injuries

Six OU starters from the season-opening game against Houston were sidelined by different ailments in last Saturday’s 56-3 win over Kansas — Matt Dimon (DE), Tay Evans (LB), Cody Ford (OL), Ogbonnia Okoronkwo (LB), Samaje Perine (RB) and Charles Walker (DE).

Key contributors Michiah Quick (CB) and Matt Romar (DT) also didn’t see action against the Jayhawks, while Rodney Anderson (RB), Daniel Brooks (RB) and Marquise Overton (DT) have suffered season- or career-ending injuries.

Despite the heavy losses, the Sooners are in sole possession of first place in the Big 12 heading into Thursday’s 6:30 p.m. game at Iowa State.

“I’ve never been in one year with this many injuries and different moving parts,” Stoops said on Monday. “But I’ll say that, the guys that were in the two and three deep, the guys are stepping up and playing hard and playing well, doing what we’re asking them to do and playing with good discipline and the way they’re playing and making plays.

“We’re getting awful thin, though, and it’s been concerning, but guys continue to respond.” (Tulsa World)
