Mike Stoops Pleased With Defense's Performance Against ISU

In a 34-24 victory Thursday against Iowa State, the Sooners defense suffered more than one breakdown, getting manhandled at the line on a 41-yard touchdown run from Joel Lanning and getting confused on motion when Allen Lazard caught a 31-yard TD pass.

But despite the lapses, the Sooners held ISU to 290 total yards and did enough to get the victory, so the verdict on the OU defense is still out.

“We played well,” defensive coordinator Mike Stoops said. “We controlled the run. The long run was disappointing and that pass at the end. Other than that, I thought our kids competed well. We played well considering (a short week). We knew it would be tough. This team has moved the ball on everybody and scored a lot of points and had an opportunity to win a lot of games.” (Tulsa World)
