Barry Switzer Endorses Mike Leach For Arkansas Vacancy

USA Today
Oklahoma coaching legend Barry Switzer endorsed Washington State coach Mike Leach to fill the vacant head coach position at the University of Arkansas.

The school fired Chad Morris after 4-18 record in two seasons. Switzer, played and coached for Arkansas more than 50 years ago, said Leach would bring “instant credibility.”

“I don’t know if they can get him,” Switzer told The O'Colly podcast via 24/7sports on Monday. “I don’t know if he’d be interested in the job, but the best guy out there is Mike Leach. He has an instant credibility. He’s won everywhere he’s been. He’s taken second-division clubs and made them winners at Texas Tech and what he’s done at Washington State. Quarterbacks and receivers all around the country in high school know what he’s like. They know his reputation. That’s where they want to go to school, where they throw the ball and the things Mike Leach does.

“That’s the guy that’s the best offensive coach out there. He coached Lincoln Riley. Eight guys on the Oklahoma staff were protegees of Mike Leach. He’s my No. 1 pick out there.”

Leach served as Oklahoma's offensive coordinator in 1999. He is 55-46 in eight years at Washington State.
