Mel Kiper: Jalen Hurts' draft stock is rising

Oklahoma quarterback Jalen Hurts' draft stock is rising.

NFL Draft guru Mel Kiper spoke highly of Hurts on ESPN's Radio's ”ESPN GameDay” on Saturday, saying the quarterback's name has been the ‘hot name' among NFL executives and scouts ahead of April 23-25 NFL Draft.

“A lot of good things,” Kiper said, via 247Sports. “You want to talk about hot guys? He’s one … I think Lamar Jackson kind of opened that door. People questioned his passing. People questioned Jalen’s passing. It got better at Oklahoma but still not perfect … He’s not getting out of the second round.”

Hurts, a graduate transfer from Alabama, was a 2019 Heisman Trophy finalist. Last season, he completed 69.7 percent of his passes for 3,851 yards and 32 touchdowns.

Kiper has previously predicted Hurts wouldn’t be available on draft board on day three.

“I think he’s a late-second or third rounder,” Kiper said, via 247Sports, following the NFL Scouting Combine in March. “I don’t think he gets to day three. I think in the third round, somebody jumps at this guy with his intangibles through the roof. You run under 4.6. You saw the rushing touchdowns, he had 23 at Alabama, 20 this year at Oklahoma.”

Hurts will be one of 58 draft prospects virtually participating in this month's draft.
