Defensive lineman Charles Tapper announced his retirement from professional football on Monday after being waived by the New York Jets in May.

“I’m actively retiring from the NFL,” he wrote on Facebook.

Tapper, 27, selected 101st overall by the Dallas Cowboys in the 2016 National Football League Draft would not play a snap his rookie season – recovering from a stress fracture in his vertebrate.

After recording one sack, three tackles in two games in 2017, Tapper was sidelined, again, after breaking his foot effectively ending his tenure with the team. The Cowboys would waive him after being placed on the non-football injury list.

The Jets would sign Tapper to a reserve contract in January 2019, before waiving him four months later for an unspecified injury. In January, New York would give him another opportunity before waiving him, again, last month.
