Sooners Fall in WCWS Opener, 6-2

A first-inning home run by junior Shelby Pendley was the only hit of the contest for the seventh-seeded Oklahoma softball team in a 6-2 loss to No. 2 Alabama (51-11) in the opening game of the Women’s College World Series Thursday night.

"I feel like we had a little uncharacteristic approach tonight," OU head coach Patty Gasso said. "I know that we're a better offensive team. We hit a few balls hard. We had a couple of opportunities."

The Sooners (50-12) saw their five-game winning streak at the WCWS come to a close as they were unable to solve Alabama starter Jaclyn Traina. In addition to Pendley’s hit, OU walked five times, but Traina recorded nine strikeouts to quiet the Oklahoma bats.
