Visitor Sections Being Moved at Oklahoma Memorial Stadium

Oklahoma football season ticket holders seated in some parts of the north, east and northeast sides of Gaylord Family — Oklahoma Memorial Stadium will be relocated next season to make room for the new visitor sections.

Several rows in sections 19-22, 226-228 and 233-235 will all be made into visitor sections, OU spokesman Mike Houck confirmed Monday.

OU to Honor Blake Griffin on Senior Night

The University of Oklahoma Athletics Department announced Thursday that it will welcome back Sooner basketball great Blake Griffin during OU’s upcoming men’s home game versus Baylor on March 1. The university will honor Griffin’s No. 23 jersey at halftime of the 7 p.m. CT contest inside Lloyd Noble Center.

Four-Star Prospect Decommits From Sooners

Oklahoma lost its only 2016 defensive line commitment Wednesday night, when four-star defensive tackle Chris Daniels announced that he was re-opening his recruitment.

The news isn’t terribly surprising. Within the last week, Daniels had visited Texas, hosted several other schools — Arkansas, Ole Miss, Texas A&M and Tennessee — on in-home visits and tweeted enthusiastically about his new scholarship offer from Arkansas.

Wrestling: Michael Lightner Promoted to Associate Head Coach

OU wrestling coach Michael Lightner has been promoted from assistant coach to associate head coach, head coach Mark Cody announced Tuesday.

Lightner was named an OU assistant on August 27, 2009, and his duties include recruiting, directing summer camps and training and instructing OU wrestlers. With the promotion, the Marlow, Okla., native will continue recruiting efforts for the program as well as his involvement with student-athlete instruction.

OU Football Spring Game Scheduled for April 9th

Kickoff for the 2016 OU Spring Game presented by U.S. Fleet Tracking is set for 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 9 at Gaylord Family - Oklahoma Memorial Stadium.

OU Football season ticket holders will receive information on how they can reserve their free tickets for the contest with their 2016 ticket renewal packet. The deadline for all Sooner Club donations and season ticket renewals is March 31, 2016.

Season ticket holders are eligible to request the same number of seats for the OU Spring Game as they have for regular season games. University of Oklahoma students will also receive free admission to the game by showing a current OU ID at the gate. OU Kids Club members will also receive complimentary admission.

W Gymnastics: Sooners Ranked Second Nationally

The Oklahoma women’s gymnastics team rose to No. 2 nationally in this week’s top 25 rankings after posting two 197-plus scores this past weekend. The Sooners hold an average team score of 196.967 through the first three meets of the season.

OU totaled marks of 197.125 in a tri-meet with California and TWU on Friday before closing the weekend with a 197.050 at No. 16 Arkansas on Sunday. OU entered the weekend with the fourth-highest average in the nation.

OU's Buddy Hield Named Oscar Robertson National Player of the Week

For the second time in three weeks, the U.S. Basketball Writers Association has selected Oklahoma guard Buddy Hield as its Oscar Robertson National Player of the Week for games ending the week of Sunday, Jan. 10. The USBWA's weekly honor is presented by Blue Ribbon College Basketball Yearbook.

OU's Austin Seibert Named Freshman All-American

The University of Oklahoma's Austin Seibert capped a successful first collegiate season by being named to the Football Writers Association of America Freshman All-America Team as a punter on Monday.

Seibert, a Ray Guy Award semifinalist and a second-team All-Big 12 honoree, averaged 42.0 yards on his 57 punts this season. Eleven of his punts went at least 50 yards, 23 were downed inside the 20-yard line and only two went for touchbacks.

Former Sooners QB Justice Hansen Verbally Commits to Arkansas State


Former Oklahoma quarterback Justice Hansen announced via Twitter he has verbally committed to Arkansas State.


Hansen, a former four-star prospect from Edmond Santa-Fe, transferred to Butler Community College after spending his freshman year (2014-15) at University of Oklahoma.

Hansen had offers from Iowa State and Akron.

RB Samaje Perine to Undergo Surgery on Ankle

Samaje Perine will have surgery for torn ligaments in his left ankle on Monday, according to a Facebook post by his mother Gloria Perine.

Perine had chronic problems with his ankle during the second half of the 2015 football season. In the Orange Bowl loss against Clemson, he was sidelined twice after injuring the ankle.

OU Men's Tennis Ranked Second in Preseason Poll

Having finished as the national runner-up in each of the last two seasons, and fresh off its fourth consecutive Big 12 Championship, the Oklahoma men’s tennis team begins its 2016 spring season ranked No. 2 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association’s (ITA) preseason poll.

The Sooners also began the season at number two last year, setting a program record for highest preseason ranking, before ascending to the top spot for much of the year.

Trevor Knight Transferring to Texas A&M

Oklahoma quarterback Trevor Knight announced on Monday via Twitter he plans to transfer to Texas A&M, he will be immediately eligible to play as a graduate transfer.

Knight is expected to compete for A&M's starting job after quarterbacks Kyle Allen and Kyler Murray — who had both started in 2015 — left the program last month to transfer. Murray transferred to Oklahoma.

VIDEO: Buddy Hield Drills 3-Pointers During Practice In Preparation for Kansas

Oklahoma point guard Buddy Hield drained 34 straight 3-pointers during Monday's practice at Allen Fieldhouse, according to OU assistant athletic director Mike Houck.

Albeit the short clip below only shows eight 3-pointers in a row.

No. 1 Kansas host No. 2 Oklahoma in a Big Monday showdown tonight at 8 CT on ESPN.

Stoops Thinks Dominique Alexander Could Have Used Another Year


Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops commented on junior linebacker Dominique Alexander declaring for the NFL Draft.

“Overall, I think he could have improved his position, but everybody’s family and circumstances are always different,” OU coach Bob Stoops said Saturday. “He just felt he needed to go out so that’s OK.”
Alexander’s son, Noah, was born last March, and Dominique has spoken before about taking more responsibility as a father.
“Life is a lot more serious now,” Alexander told reporters shortly after his son was born. “It’s not really about me. It’s about me as well, but every decision I make now has meaning.”

Adrian Peterson Wins NFL Rushing Title

Former Oklahoma and current Minnesota Viking running back Adrian Peterson finished the regular season with 1,485 rushing yards, the most in the league. Although he had his third rushing title locked by up kickoff, he added to his total with 67 yards against the Packers.

“I told myself that my main focus was to just do whatever I could to help my team win,” Peterson said. “I was surprised to hear that I already had it before the game started. It’s a great feeling.”

Three SEC Schools Reportedly Interested in Trevor Knight

It appears Texas A&M has some SEC-sized competition for Oklahoma graduate transfer quarterback Trevor Knight.

LSU and Auburn have also shown interest in adding Knight, who started at Oklahoma before Baker Mayfield arrived and led the Sooners to the College Football Playoff this season, according to Taylor Hamm of 247sports. Hamm reported Knight is expected to make his decision this weekend, and he is still expected to choose the Aggies.

Dominique Alexander Declares for NFL Draft

Oklahoma junior linebacker Dominique Alexander has declared for the 2016 NFL Draft, he announced on Twitter.

Alexander has led OU in tackles the last two seasons. The Tulsa Washington product entered the starting lineup midway through his true freshman season after senior Corey Nelson suffered a season ending injury.

Zack Sanchez to Enter NFL Draft

Oklahoma cornerback Zack Sanchez has announced he will forgo his final year of eligibility and declare for the NFL Draft.

The three-year starter has been an All Big-12 first team selection in his sophomore and junior seasons. He’s led the conference in interceptions during the past two seasons, nabbing six in 2014 and seven more in 2015.
