Hempstead's three-year starter who keeps fighting back
Delarrin Turner-Yell (pronounced 'duh-LARE-ee-in') was born in Hempstead, Texas, and starred at Hempstead High School. A three-star recruit, he committed to Oklahoma in August 2017, choosing the Sooners over Baylor, Houston and Iowa.
At OU (2018–2021) Turner-Yell became a three-year starter at safety, known for his physical tackling. He finished his college career with four interceptions and 10 passes defensed, and he earned second-team All-Big 12 honors in 2021.
The Denver Broncos selected him in the fifth round (152nd overall) of the 2022 NFL draft, in the same Broncos draft class as fellow Sooner Nik Bonitto. As a rookie he played in 14 games and recovered two fumbles. His career was then slowed by injuries. He tore his ACL in Week 17 of the 2023 season and missed all of 2024. Waived and re-signed to the practice squad in August 2025, he was elevated for a Week 16 game but suffered another knee injury.
As of October 8, 2026, Turner-Yell is a free agent safety working to return to the field.
