Al Coppage
1940 · Round 13 · Pick 111 · E · Chicago Cardinals
Al Coppage was born in Pilot Point, Texas, and grew up in Hollis, Oklahoma. He played end at Oklahoma from 1937, and his 1938 team went unbeaten in the regular season and won OU's first Big Six title before losing the Orange Bowl to Tennessee. The Chicago Cardinals drafted him in the 13th round, 111th overall, in 1940, and he played three seasons for them. He served as a corporal in the Twentieth Air Force in the Pacific. He then won the 1946 AAFC title with the Cleveland Browns and finished with Buffalo in 1947. He later worked in lumber and banking in Oklahoma. He died on January 9, 1992. Pro Football Reference has a player page for him (linked below), but its stats weren't pulled for this bio. The Daily Oklahoman's December 10, 1939 draft story (NewsBank page 47) lists "Alton Coppage, Oklahoma, end" under the Chicago Cardinals.
