Bob Kalsu
1968 · Round 8 · Pick 199 · OT · Buffalo Bills
Bob Kalsu was born in Oklahoma City and played at Del City High School. He was a first-team All-American and All-Big Eight tackle at Oklahoma in 1967. Buffalo drafted him in the eighth round, 199th overall, in 1968, and he started at guard all season, earning team rookie of the year. To fulfill his ROTC obligation he entered the Army as a second lieutenant and went to Vietnam with the 101st Airborne in November 1969. He was killed by mortar fire at Fire Support Base Ripcord on July 21, 1970. His son was born two days later. He was one of two pro football players killed in Vietnam, and he is on the Bills' Wall of Fame. Pro Football Reference has a player page for him (linked below), but its stats weren't pulled for this bio. The Daily Oklahoman wrote on February 1, 1968 (NewsBank page 25): "Kalsu went in the eighth round to Buffalo of the American Football League, while Shotts was picked in the 11th round by Dallas of the NFL."
