Brian Bosworth

1987 · Round Supplemental 1 · Pick 1 · LB · Seattle Seahawks

Brian Bosworth, "the Boz," was born in Oklahoma City and was a two-time consensus All-American at MacArthur High School in Irving, Texas. After a 1983 redshirt year, he played linebacker for Oklahoma from 1984 to 1986. He was a unanimous All-American in 1985 and 1986, won the first two Butkus Awards (still the only two-time winner), and helped win the 1985 national title. He was barred from the Orange Bowl after his junior season for a positive steroid test, which he said came from medication prescribed for injuries. Seattle took him in the first round of the 1987 supplemental draft, and he made the PFWA All-Rookie Team. A shoulder injury ended his career after three seasons, with 175 tackles and four sacks. He went on to an acting career and was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2015. The Oklahoman wrote on June 19, 1983: "Vickers is ranked third among the nation's safety prospects and Brian Bosworth of Irving, Texas, MacArthur is 25th on the linebacker list."
