Carl Allison

1955 · Round 22 · Pick 263 · B · Chicago Bears

Carl Allison was born in Krebs, Oklahoma. He started every game for four years (1951–1954) under Bud Wilkinson and captained the unbeaten 1954 team. He also played four years of OU baseball. Wilkinson wrote that he had never seen "a better all-around football player, nor a more reliable one," and Allison is on OU's 1950s All-Decade Team. He was drafted in the 22nd round, 263rd overall, in 1955, and spent a short time with George Halas' Chicago Bears. He then coached Clinton High School and revived Harding University's football program (1959–1963), which hadn't played since 1931. He later scouted for OU and coached baseball at Harding. Conflict resolved: Wikipedia's draft list says Detroit, but OU's list and his own Wikipedia article both say the Chicago Bears. I've used the Bears in master.csv. He died on December 3, 2013. Pro Football Reference has no player page for him. The Daily Oklahoman wrote on December 5, 1954 (NewsBank page 49): "The only unanimous choice was Oklahoma's all-American center, Kurt Burris, who also easily won the "most outstanding lineman" nod. The team also includes ends Max Boydston and Carl Allison of Oklahoma."
