Cedric Jones
1996 · Round 1 · Pick 5 · DE · New York Giants
Cedric Lewis Jones was born on April 30, 1974, in Houston, raised by his mother and grandmother, and played at Lamar High School. At Oklahoma he was first-team All-Big Eight in 1994 and 1995 and a consensus All-American in 1995. Grokipedia says his five sacks against Texas Tech in 1994 is still OU's single-game record and that he is OU's career sacks leader. The New York Giants drafted him fifth overall in 1996. He played 73 games over five seasons (1996–2000), including the team that reached Super Bowl XXXV, and in 1999 he tied for seventh in the NFL with five forced fumbles. Career totals: Wikipedia gives 151 tackles and Grokipedia 154, with 15 sacks and seven forced fumbles. He signed with St. Louis in 2001 but was hurt that August and didn't play. He later coached and became a Rams scout in 2017, and was promoted to regional scout in 2025. The Oklahoman wrote on November 11, 1994: "Jones, a junior from Houston's Lamar High School, has 18 1/2 career sacks totaling 118 yards."
