David Overstreet

1981 · Round 1 · Pick 13 · RB · Miami Dolphins

David Overstreet was from Big Sandy, Texas, and played at Big Sandy High School. He was a wishbone halfback for Barry Switzer at Oklahoma. On October 4, 1980, he ran for 258 yards on 18 carries in an 82–42 win over Colorado. As a senior that year he led the team with 678 yards and helped win the Big Eight title, and he was second-team All-Big Eight. Miami drafted him in the first round, 13th overall, in 1981, but after a contract dispute he signed with the CFL's Montreal Alouettes. He ran for 952 yards there and was the team's rookie of the year. He returned to the Dolphins in 1983 and ran for 392 yards, averaging 4.6 per carry. He was killed in a car accident in June 1984, at age 25. The Oklahoman wrote on December 27, 1981: "His 181 yards was the best for a Sooner back since David Overstreet piled up 258 in OU's 82-42 win over Colorado last year."
