Davin Joseph

2006 · Round 1 · Pick 23 · OL · Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Davin Joseph was born in Hallandale Beach, Florida, and is of Haitian descent. At Hallandale High School he was the Broward County Defensive Player of the Year, with 24 sacks as a senior, and he won state and national heavyweight wrestling titles. At Oklahoma he played in 50 games, starting 29 at guard and 11 at left tackle, and was consensus first-team All-Big 12 as a senior in 2005. Tampa Bay drafted him in the first round, 23rd overall, in 2006. He made the Pro Bowl after the 2008 and 2011 seasons and signed a seven-year, $53 million extension in 2011. A knee injury in the 2012 preseason ended that season. He finished his career with the St. Louis Rams in 2014, having started 112 of his 116 NFL games. Tidbit: in 2011 he started the Davin Joseph Foundation to support athletic and performing-arts programs at Title I schools. The Oklahoman wrote on April 30, 2006: "Davin Joseph spent draft day back home, surrounded by family and friends in Hallandale, Fla." The same article says: "Joseph's selection kept alive a streak of five straight years the Sooners have had a first-round pick."
